With this program we aimed to accompany schools in the process of identifying how technologies support or can support the processes of design, teaching, learning and evaluation of students in school.
At the same time, through SELFIE, we create the necessary infrastructure to implement a strategic plan for the development of high quality (digital) education in the long term at the level of schools customized to the real needs of their stakeholders.
The plan of each school will be aligned with the SMART.Edu strategy, regarding the digitalization of education in Romania 2021 - 2027, as well as the European Commission for Education that supports the effort to improve and modernize the education systems in Europe.
4 weeks/school
The school team will have analyzed objectively, anonymously and through evaluation, the current level of digitalization, in order to set priorities to increase the quality of the educational act, putting the student at the center of all actions taken.
The school's modernization strategy will be established in the short, medium and long term, with aims to reduce the existing gaps between students’ skills and the demand on the hyper-digitized labor market.
SELFIE school representatives will become more responsible and willing to contribute to meeting local needs, aligned with the EEC strategy, so that the skilled labor becomes competitive in terms of productivity, quality and innovation.
The school will set up a community activation initiative to enter partnerships aimed at developing digital and networking skills, improving , retraining and empowering lifelong learning.
SELFIE school team will have the necessary capacity to apply SELFIE, on a regular basis, in order to constantly measure the impact of the strategic initiatives implemented at school level.
All SELFIE schools will help map localization's digitalization needs and national priorities for improving and modernizing the education system to promote equity, school inclusion and social cohesion.

Targets district: Bacău, Bistrița, București, Buzău, Călărași, Galați, Hunedoara, Ilfov, Olt, and Sălaj
SELFIE (Self-reflection on Effective Learning by Fostering the use of Innovative Educational technologies) is a free tool designed to help schools embed digital technologies into teaching, learning and assessment. SELFIE has a strong basis in research and was developed based on the European Commission framework on promoting digital-age learning in educational organisations.
SELFIE anonymously gathers the views of students, teachers and school leaders on how technology is used in their school. This is done using short statements and questions and a simple 1-5 answer scale. The questions and statements take around 20 minutes to complete.
Based on this input, the tool generates a report – a snapshot (‘SELFIE’ :-)) of a school‘s strengths and weaknesses in their use of technology.
SELFIE is an initiative of the European Commission and is funded through the Erasmus programme. It is free of charge for every school.
The tool has been developed with a team of experts from schools, education ministries and research institutes across Europe. Partner institutions include the European Training Foundation, the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (CEDEFOP) and UNESCO's Institute for Information Technologies in Education.
School leaders, teachers and students have been involved in creating and testing SELFIE:
5,000 staff and students gave input into the early design of the tool
67,000 people, from 650 schools across Europe, took part in the pilot test
SELFIE was tested in primary schools to ensure it could be understood by younger students
SELFIE involves the whole school community – school leaders, teachers and students – in a 360-degree process covering many areas of school practice.
Because every school is unique, the tool can be customised. Your school can select and add questions and statements to suit your needs.
You can take the assessment from a computer, tablet or smartphone.
SELFIE allows all participants to answer questions that match their experience, as students, teachers or school leaders.
SELFIE is free of charge. Answers are anonymised and data is secure.
On completing SELFIE, each school receives a tailor-made, interactive report which provides both in-depth data and quick insights into strengths and weaknesses.
SELFIE involves students, teachers and school leaders in a collective reflection on technology use. Its results can highlight issues including:
in what areas is technology used effectively and where can the school improve?
does the school have a vision for how it wants to use technology and, if so, do staff and students know what it is?
what kind of training do teachers find most beneficial?
where should funding be allocated?
SELFIE can help a school make informed decisions by reviewing and continuously improving how digital technologies are used for teaching, learning and assessment.
